Fathom
Origin
A ‘fathom’ is a measure of length, standardized to 6ft, specifically used to measure the depth of a body of water. As a verb, ‘to fathom’ means ‘exploring a subject very thoroughly’. With its relation to both the sea and the way we approach our work, this word inspired our company name.
Filosophy
At FATHOM we believe that proper preparation together with management of changes are at the core of a successful business. Do standards and protocols used for previous projects still apply? Jan-Hendrik Hensen
Founder
Jan-Hendrik is a highly skilled consultant in the fields of Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Quality Assurance (QA) and Crisis Management. After gaining experience with of HSE and QA in the maritime, and oil and gas industry within organizations such as Allseas Engineering, Fairstar Heavy Transport, and Dockwise, he founded FATHOM in 2012. Jan-Hendrik is co-founder of Quattor P (www.quattorp.com).
His employment history within the classification society Bureau Veritas makes him very knowledgeable in the field of various marine and offshore norms and legislation. Jan-Hendrik excels at project improvement, safety awareness, Quality Assurance, the design and development of (management) systems and risk management.
FATHOM’s approach is grounded in Jan-Hendrik’s approach: a thorough research process with attention to detail and respect for all sides and stakeholders, resulting in structured products that truly unburden the client and improve their way of working.

Roland Numeijer
Network associate
Roland, representing NuMarCo Operations BV, has a maritime as well as naval architect background, having worked in offshore/maritime /salvage related companies for almost 40 years. Roland and Jan-Hendrik started working together during their time at Allseas Engineering, and have collaborated on numerous projects since then, such as the decommissioning project for BOSKALIS – SCALDIS.
Roland is fully acquainted with the current international Maritime & Offshore Operational, HSE and construction legislation, and familiar with all aspects regarding lifting equipment, offshore construction, and inspection activities. He has extensive experience as both QHSE manager and operations manager. This ensures that in complex projects, he can identify what operational issues may affect any QHSE matters and vice versa. With his broad practical knowledge, he adds value to many types of projects. Roland is a Certified Auditor by Ferribi Marine for ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 & IMO ISM and IMCA CIMD.
